The BibliaFiles

An Online Book Discussion Mailing List
Welcome to The Biblia Files! Some guidelines for this experimental book discussion list are as follows. They may still change as the list grows and changes, but we had to start somewhere!
  • Join the list if you like to read, you like to discuss what you’ve read, and listen to what other people have to say about books and literature.
  • Do not forward anything from this list without permission from the author. All discussion on this list should be treated as confidential.
  • Somebody already on the list should vouch for you when you subscribe. See 'Subscription Information' to the right for more details.
  • There are no constraints on what books can be discussed: fiction, nonfiction, science fiction, westerns, cookbooks, whatever. If you like a book, and want to talk about, start a discussion or post a review! Don’t be afraid to be controversial.
  • It may be the case that several books are being discussed at any given time. To facilitate the discussion (and to allow those not interested in a book to quickly discard messages about it), try to indicate in the subject line which book is being discussed.
  • "Off-topic" posts are allowed, since good discussions of literature will invariably lead into unexpected areas. The list isn’t moderated, so use your discretion.
  • No flaming. This list should be an inclusive place for active and vibrant discussions of books and literature. Gratuitous insults, flames, and other Usenet-like nonsense are not acceptable.
  • The list owner isn’t getting paid for this, so if you’ve subscribed and haven’t heard anything, wait a few more days before inundating her with reminders. The hope is that all subscription requests will be handled within 24-48 hours, barring vacations and technical difficulties.
  • Binary files, pictures, gifs, jpegs, etc. are not allowed on the list. They’re too big. Chain letters and spams are expressly forbidden.
  • If you engage in baiting, trolling, flaming, spamming, or other obnoxious behavior you’ll be warned, and if subsequent behavior does not improve, you’ll be booted. This is entirely at the list owner’s discretion.
  • Be aware that the reply-to for this list is set to the entire list.
  • When posting, be careful of the format (watch out for inappropriate wordwrapping) and make sure it’s clear what/who you’re quoting/responding to, and what your own remarks are.
  • Finally, do not participate in this list unless you’re tolerant of diversity in opinion, thought, lifestyle, background, and, of course, genre and bookstore preference!

These guidelines are subject to change.
