Digital Planet is Excellent

Since I’m commuting downtown somewhat regularly again, I’ve spent a bit of time looking for some podcasts to listen to.  One of my very favorites so far is the BBC’s Digital Planet.  Gareth Mitchell hosts this weekly half-hour podcast on all things digital.  And it truly is global in scope, ranging from SXSW in Texas to GPS applications in Kenya. Gareth Mitchell (@garethm on Twitter) is the host and Bill Thompson (@billt on Twitter) regularly chimes in with thoughtful insights and observations. I find them both to be very well-informed. Mitchell asks astute questions and Thompson brings a longer-term perspective.

Perhaps my expectations of journalists are just incredibly low given the media landscape here, but I’ve been pretty impressed by the dozen or so episodes I’ve listened to so far.  I’ve even learned things, and sometimes they ask questions I wouldn’t have thought of (or, even better, they ask the obvious follow-ups; a real rarity in the U.S. these days).  It’s now a weekly date for me. Highly recommended.

Thanks! I’ve been filling up the Sansa player recently, but deleting a lot of stuff half-listened to in disgust.
