Good Blogs

I read a lot of blogs in my feedreader. But I thought I’d take a minute and highlight a couple that I may not link or delicious or tweet about much but that I’m glad are out there. This isn’t comprehensive, of course; just a few off the top of my head.

First, of course, I should note that TheGuy has restarted his weblog. Woot! Looking forward to more content there.

Chris Clarke has been writing over at Creek Running North, now Coyote Crossing, for a long time. He also somewhat-recently started up The Clade, a community environmental blog. I cluster blogs in my feedreader under very loose categories, such as “Parenting Blogs,” “Mainstream Liberals,” (not necessarily a complimentary term, mind you), “Known Quantities” (my peeps) and so on. I have a cluster called “Literates” which I roughly mean to be particularly good writers. Clarke’s stuff goes here. It’s the sort of writing that i often don’t want to read as part of my normal daily scanning, because I’d rather sit down with his blog and a cup of tea and read it properly. Unfortunately what this means is that I don’t read it as often as I do other things, even though I enjoy it more.

Clarke pulled together a bunch of his writing about his dog Zeke into a book Walking with Zeke that is available at Lulu.com. I snagged a copy this week after he mentioned it in his Twitter feed. When there are easy and straightforward ways to signal support for quality indie bloggers, I try to remember to do so now and then.

Another weblogger I’m enjoying a great deal is Bed Timing, by the author of the book by the same name. She’s a child psychologist writing about what are better and worse developmental windows in which to attempt “sleep training” a child. Sleep is one of those “mommy war” issues — people have very strong opinions about what is and isn’t appropriate. I think Bed Timing does a good job, one of the better I’ve seen actually, of withholding judgment and just discussing a wide range of possibilities and approaches. She is similar to Ask Moxie, in this sense, although Moxie covers a wider range of parenting topics.

Not a personal blog, but I find The Big Picture at Boston.com to often have riveting photography. Here are the photos pulled together in the wake of Ted Kennedy’s passing.

Thank you SO much for the link to my blog!!! Your words are so encouraging. Really. I appreciate it a lot. And those Kennedy pictures? WOW. Thanks for that time-suck and tear-jerker ;-)

I’ll be back to read more… I’m a tad tech-dumb so some of your posts look like I could really learn a lot.
