Kojo and the Kingdom

Third Saudi State (present day) (Saudi Arabia)

I was driving to an offsite meeting mid-day today and caught about 20-25 minutes of the Kojo Nnamdi show, which I usually enjoy whenever I hear, but which I rarely listen to. They were discussing Saudi Arabia. Robert Lacey, the author of the books Kingdom and Inside the Kingdom was one of the guests. I knew a little bit of the history of Saudi Arabia from some of the peak oil books I read a couple years back. Still, I’d be very curious to read these books as well, – not that I’ll have time anytime soon.

Lacey delivered a marvelous smackdown to a caller who expressed some outrage at a recent (yes, outrageous) sentence of 60 lashes issued to a woman in Saudi Arabia for benign (by U.S. standards) behavior. He pointed out that the U.S. executes almost as many people a year as Saudi Arabia and really has no standing on which to complain about “justice” system barbarism in other countries.
