Excellent Things

Steve wants us all to share some excellent things. Here are a few things I think are pretty excellent:

  • Cotton. We have pretty much become a household who wears nearly 100% cotton everything. Occasionally some wool and we do have a bit of fleece. But mostly soft, breathable, natural fibers.
  • The Internet. No better time for an introverted information junkie to be alive than today. Except for tomorrow, that is.
  • Penzey’s mint hot chocolate mix. Am thinking of introducing this to TLG soon. Will have to be in soy milk, since he’s still off dairy, but it would probably still be yummy.

Related to the second, and with regard to technology generally, I was trying to imagine what the Internet would be like in 12 years when TLG is 13. What gadgets will there be? 12 years ago was 1997. There was barely a Google, right? No iPhones for sure. No iPod. As one perspective, here are Wired’s covers for 1997. Some topics feel very familiar, but some seem so over.

And hey, I just checked and I managed a post here every day in October. So I should be well warmed up for NaBloPoMo, right?

Google did not exist as a company in 1997. From http://www.google.com/intl/en/corporate/history.html:

    August 1998

    * Sun co-founder Andy Bechtolsheim writes a check for $100,000 to an entity that doesn’t exist yet: a company called Google Inc.
