Ubik the cat is no longer.
He had been ailing for quite some time. Earlier this year he moved with his sister Myszka to live with my parents in Maine (due to TheLittleGuy’s cat allergy). His illness(es)–a mysterious liver problem, medication-induced diabetes, and a likely tumor causing nerve damage and loss of function in his limbs–became progressively worse over time. And my parents decided this week that he was doing poorly and in pain far more often than he was doing well. Up until just recently he would still gamely try to chase the other kitties and play and finagle milk and yogurt from my Dad at the fridge.
But it was time.
Ubik was an excellent cat and companion. When he was younger he would often sit on my back while I was laying on my stomach and knead my shoulder blades. Since he weighed around 13 pounds or so, he was able to apply some excellent pressure. Kitty massage! He loved to curl up by my feet on the recliner. And wherever there were people in the house, he had to be. Social, but wary. He needed to know what was going on!
We have missed him a great deal since he moved away. And now we miss him more. And of course, major thanks to my folks for taking in an ailing older kitty, although I know he charmed them to pieces, too.
Goodbye, Ubik-Ubik-ooo. We love you.

I am so sorry. I know what it’s like to lose a feline family member. I’ll miss him.
He is so handsome. I always liked seeing him at your house. I’m very sorry.
Oh, I am so sorry to hear this. He was a beautiful little guy.
I’m sorry, too. I remember Ubik coming boldly to visit me when I stayed in your guest room, while Myska just shyly peeked at me from a distance.
Just showed that beautiful picture of him to Doug (a long-time kitty admirer), and he sends sympathy wishes as well.
