She can but she prefers to yell, "Mama!" like she's just been stung by a bee. But the new daycare emphasizes doing this task themselves, and then throwing the tissue away and washing hands. I noticed that none of the other kids were very good at doing it without a reminder, but Penny is very aware of when she needs to wipe/blow her nose so hopefully she'll pick up on it and start doing it herself.

It is frustrating - although I have only gotten sick myself a fraction of the times that he has had a cold. The only advantage I've been persuaded of is that *supposedly* it will mean many fewer illnesses in kindergarten and first grade, since that won't be his first exposure to a slew of virii. Here's hoping!

And, apart from the ear infections that TLG seems prone to, he's in generally good spirits even with a cold. It's just that the constant runny nose is disgusting. But P's older - can she blow her own nose? That'll save you a lot of trouble. ;-)

Penny starts daycare in two weeks, and since it's only two days a week the only part I'm dreading is the illness. Her current preschool has an extra-strict sick policy, but the new one has a standard daycare policy where they only have to stay home for high fevers, etc. Makes perfect sense for working parents who need the child care, but oh how I dread the germs! During our visit last week every kid in the place had a runny nose.
